Ask Marion: How to Find the Perfect-Fitting Boot?
Our team is dedicated to developing a wide range of boots and booties that are beautiful and comfortable for every occasion. Size is just one of many factors that contribute to finding the ideal fit for your foot. Here are some guidelines to get started.

Choosing the Right Boots for Your Foot Type
In order to get the style and fit that work best for you, consider your foot type. If you have a high arch, we recommend a boot with a zipper closure. It’s much easier to slip on and off than a pull-on boot with a fixed circumference. If you have a wide foot, this can also be a factor. Try a thin nylon sock to reduce the friction or opt for styles with a zipper.
Consider the Type of Hosiery You Plan to Wear with Your Boots
If you plan to wear socks with your boots, consider the sock's thickness when selecting your size. With a heavier cotton or wool sock, you should choose half size larger than you normally wear.
Why Heel Height Isn't Everything
I say this often and it's worth repeating: When it comes to fit and comfort, heel height isn't everything. Most of us have experienced painful flats and worn high heels that were comfortable for many hours.
Often the pitch of the shoe or boot is the primary contributor to discomfort. The pitch is the angle created between the top of the heel and where the forefoot or toe box touches the ground. If that distance is too long or too short for your foot the boot will be uncomfortable no matter the heel height. When trying on a new pair of boots or booties, pay attention to any excessive motion or slippage of your foot while walking or standing. This can lead to discomfort, soreness and fatigue.
In addition, I always recommend buying the shoe size that best fits your foot length not width. Going up in size to accommodate width will likely result in motion or slippage of your foot. If the width of the boot feels tight, consider having it stretched by a shoe repair provider.
Achieving a Comfortable Calf Fit
When buying a tall boot, measure the widest part of your calf and compare it to the boot’s specifications. Note that this will vary from person to person. If the shaft feels too snug, consider taking it to a shoe repair provider for stretching.
