Ask Marion: Leadership, Growth & Empowering Women

For International Women’s Day, Marion Parke shares her journey from surgeon to founder, the power of women supporting women, and the future of leadership.

For International Women’s Day, we asked Marion Parke to share her thoughts on leadership, building a brand, and empowering the next generation. As a surgeon turned founder, she’s navigated entrepreneurship by trusting her instincts, embracing challenges, and surrounding herself with strong collaborators. She reflects on the privilege of leading a talented team of women, the power of lifting others up, and the shifts in leadership that give her hope for the future.

Building a Brand & Leadership

What inspired you to start your own brand, and how has that journey shaped you as a leader?

I was inspired by the countless women I saw in my medical practice who, like me, were frustrated by the way women’s dress shoes fit and felt. As a doctor, I understood the issue medically, but as a woman, I felt it personally. That experience shaped how I lead today, I bring the same empathy and problem-solving mindset I had in medicine to my team and business.

What are some of the biggest lessons you’ve learned as a female founder in the luxury footwear industry?

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to trust my instincts. If something feels “off,” it probably is.

How do you approach challenges in business with the mindset of a problem solver?

I’ve learned that the best way forward is to ask for help, surround myself with strong thought partners, and never avoid uncomfortable conversations.

Working with & Supporting Women

What does it mean to you to collaborate with and lead a team of incredible women?

Some of the most inspiring moments in my work come when I see my team in action, whether it's on a Zoom call or in a meeting, each woman bringing her expertise and energy to the table. We’re all rowing together toward something bigger, and that’s an incredible thing to be a part of.

Can you share an example of a time when working with an inspiring woman—whether a colleague, partner, or mentor—made a lasting impact on you?

One of my mentors during surgical residency, Dr. Madelin Ramil, was and is an inspiration. A working mom and fierce advocate for her patients, she led with humility, a willingness to learn, and the patience to teach.

If you could share one message with women who are building their own paths—whether in business, leadership, or personal growth—what would it be?

Do your research. Trust your instincts. Don’t be afraid to be wrong or make mistakes. Just learn from them. And most of all, lift up the women around you.

Optimism for the Future

What do you hope your kids will take away from watching you pursue your vision and build something meaningful?

I hope my kids will see that it takes hard work and that they shouldn't let the fear of failure hold them back.

What does International Women’s Day mean to you personally?

The more we celebrate each other’s accomplishments, the better. It’s inspiring, and I hope we all find ways, big and small, to do it on the other 364 days each year, too.
